Islamic Binding with Indian Cotton Paper by Chris Brown

Artist Chris Brown sent us this image of a handmade book made using the Islamic binding method. In this piece, Chris used the Indian Cotton Rag paper for the cover.

Christopher K.  Brown is an Austin, Texas bookbinder and artist who makes handmade journals in the Asian, Islamic & Western styles.  What makes his books special?  He only uses cruelty free materials:  No leather, no silk, no animal glue, not even animal based pigments like cochineal.  Chris likes to sign his work using an alter ego which just happens to be the basis of his studio's name, 熊逸民 or Xióng Yìmín, The Bear Hermit which captures his essence perfectly.  When he isn't binding books, Chris enjoys fine tea, origami, nature & technical illustration and Zen inspired watercolor.
